(EN) Ayurveda and digestion

How is your digestion? Do you experience symptoms like stomach ache, bloated, pain in the (lower)back, nausea, diarrhoea, acid reflux, constipation and/or tiredness?

A lot of us don’t like to talk about digestive issues. However, research of the Dutch Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has found that almost a quarter of the Dutch population experiences problems with their digestive system.

As an Ayurvedic Practitioner, I have conducted research on constipation, a digestive issue that causes a lot of discomfort in the daily life of many.

The Ayurvedic knowledge describes that a healthy digestive system forms the base for overall health. A healthy digestive system is balanced and can digest (almost!) anything that enters the body. Disease is the result of a digestive system that is out of balance, and is unable to digest completely. This can result in toxins staying in the body for too long, disrupting the digestive processes, and that can cause symptoms like described above.

According to Ayurveda, our daily lifestyle and diet can help us balance our digestive system. It’s all about finding out what works best for us as an individual, because every one has their own different needs. A few small changes can already make a big difference!
